Press Release

Apprentice success at Stacey Construction

Chris Ware, from Stacey Construction, has won first place in the South West heats of the national SKILLBUILD 2004 Competition .
Chris is employed by Stacey Construction and attends college at the Somerset College of Arts & Technology (SCAT) , where he has completed NVQ level 2 Carpentry & Joinery one whole term ahead of schedule. He is now on day release doing NVQ level 3 and a welcome member to the team at Stacey’s.
Chris entered the Senior competition in the Carpentry and Joinery section of SKILLBUILD 2004 and actually won it. He will now go forward to the SKILLBUILD National Finals to be held in October this year – if successful here he could be destined for a trip to Helsinki, Finland for the World Finals.

Several other trainees working for Stacey’s also deserve a mention – they are all working through various training courses with the Company’s support. Along with Chris, Anthony Reed is a second year part-time student at SCAT who is currently completing NVQ level 2 on block release – interestingly Anthony’s dad Tony also works for Stacey’s as a bricklaying foreman.
First year trainees include Ian Binding who is a bricklayer doing NVQ levels 1-2, and Shane Studley , a carpenter, also doing NVQ levels 1-2. Work experience is all important to teenagers these days, and both Ian and Shane went to Stacey’s for work experience before actually joining the Company. However, it is not only the young workforce that are benefiting from such training, Andrew Hodgson and Aziz Abaze are adult trainees also each doing an NVQ in bricklaying on day release at SCAT.
