JUNE 2004 STACEY CONSTRUCTION IN WATERSIDE WORKS AT WIMBLEBALL Fortunate to be based in a very scenic part of the country, Stacey Construction often has projects in stunning locations, not least Wimbleball Reservoir, where Contract Manager Bob Davey and his team will be working for the next four weeks. Wimbleball, located within the beautiful Exmoor National Park, is a very popular recreational area with a thriving water sports facility. The well-known beauty spot is currently undergoing a programme of extensive improvements and Stacey Construction has been appointed by South West Lakes Trust to carry out the majority of the work. The contract entails the formation of a new 4m wide access track, including integral parking spaces for disabled visitors, and repositioning of the existing fishing/water sports accommodation with racking fitted to the interior to accommodate windsurfers, kayaks, buoyancy aids and other equipment. A new 100m concrete slipway is also planned but this cannot be done until autumn, when the water level has dropped. The Company is currently working on several projects close to home, including a new £360,000 village hall at Lustleigh, involving demolition of the existing premises prior to work commencing on construction of the new building. The six-month contract follows the Company’s successful completion of Uplowman Village Hall in November 2002. Other projects in the West Country include a £1.4 million development of 16 apartments and one penthouse, with far reaching coastal views, in Torquay—completion of the luxury dwellings is expected to be in September. Stacey Construction completed a similar £1.3 million project at Kingsbridge in November 2003. The Company’s Petrol Forecourt Division is about to complete the final stage in the refurbishment of Exeter Motorway Services and, further afield, Main Contracting is working on a £3.5 million housing scheme in Monmouth for Galliard Developments and a new bulk store in Launceston for Tesco—part of their Busy and Congested programme. The early part of this summer has seen a considerable increase in Stacey Construction’s workload. Projects include works of a varying nature both local and throughout the UK. |
